Two bouldering halls grace the West side of Kobe city situated in the Nagata Ward: BOSSA Climbing and WAGOMU Climbing. Featuring a varied wall, campus board section, dedicated Moon Board and TRX and pull up equipment, BOSSA climbing offers up one of the best training facilities in the area, outside of making the trek to one of Osaka’s premier climbing gyms.
The journey to BOSSA might take a little longer than city based gyms, but this well maintained, laid back bouldering gym is really well worth the journey. Situated between Shin-nagata (JR Tokaido-Sanyo line) and Nishidai (Kobekosoku, San-you line) stations the gym is tucked away discreetly on a second floor building by a quiet side-road. Oh, and do also check out Gigantor if you happen to take the JR line…
Facilities include changing rooms, bag cubicles, plenty of seating options and large table offering a perfect view of the bouldering wall. There is a place to wash hands and feet after climbing, however no shower. The counter also has a number of climbing guides to peruse and buy as well as local hiking maps. Registration is required for first timers, after which you can choose a day or 90 minutes pass.
The wall has 3 main sections as well as a separate dedicated Moon Board (including printed problem list). For the main wall, there is a monthly circuit (pink stickers numbered 1-30 and increasing in difficulty) as well as tape colored problems that form their own unique challenges. All-in-all lots of variety to keep you engaged. For those looking to try-hard, the Moon Board obviously offers near unlimited potential for training and is an excellent addition not found in many other gyms. The hall never gets too crowded, has friendly staff and can cater to both beginners looking to dip their toes into climbing as well as folks looking to push out grades and do systematic training. Give this one a try and I think you’ll come away thoroughly impressed and might even find your go-to training gym.
